Of the wood thrush: "whenever a man hears it he is young, and Nature is in her spring; wherever he hears it, it is a new world and a free country, and the gates of heaven are not shut against him. ~Thoreau wo: "whenever a man hear free country, and the gates of heaven are not shut against him. ~Thoreau
Our part in the history of this farm began about three years ago. We saw our neighbor out by the mailbox (as we commonly did), and in passing he mentioned that he and his wife were selling their house. In that moment our lives changed. We knew instantly that our two properties should be reunited, and reborn into a working farm and inn, as they had been in the past. This was the opportunity for us to pursue a dream of a owning a sustainable farm and bed & breakfast.
We decided to buy the property before we even saw the inside of the house. Our first steps inside confirmed it was a treasure. The original colonial features, the grace, the size! When I first walked through the house, I felt as though I never wanted to leave. I believe that feeling comes from the house's age, with its accumulated hundreds of years of goodwill and happiness. It's the feeling that our guests have told us they, too, experience in the farmhouse.
So, now after more than two years of work and renovations, and with five bathrooms complete, we are enjoying the first phase of the sustainable farm and farm to table food production dream: the bed & breakfast. Please join us!
