We are a farmhouse Bed & Breakfast. Our mission is to provide the highest quality comfort, food, and attention to detail in the context of history and simplicity. We have embraced the authentic qualities of
this property.Our efforts have been
driven by the desire to keep the rustic farmhouse details that already existed,
without the need to create an artificial "country" atmosphere. In our decoration and
furnishing, we celebrate the idea of “farmhouse,” which means being true to its vernacular
evolution: unmatched; un-decorated; colorful; comfortable; a sum of its history
from pre-Revolutionary War colonial to present day modern. Most of the rustic old items placed throughout the farmhouse were found in the antique barn. We have chosen to keep some things in the farmhouse that are serviceable and clean, but imperfect, because we appreciate the grace of their age. We have chosen not to tear down old plaster walls just to move a bathroom. The result is the experience of visiting an old rooming house, and hearing the echoes of a simpler time.
We are also a husband and wife team who love and believe in this property. We believe we have a unique opportunity to preserve history while also pursuing the "modern" belief that simple is better, and obtaining food and energy from your own land is better. We enjoy the company of our guests and fervently hope that they enjoy the unique treasure that is this old farmhouse.
The property was once a working farm called Old Story Farm. "Story" was the family name of one of the former owners. As shown in the photograph above of a vintage milk bottle cap, Old Story Farm was a commercial dairy. Because we want to return the property to function as a working farm, we thought it is appropriate, and inspirational, that we call it by its former farm name.
